Texas Tech University – Vietnam Archive Project and Endowment

As of the end of June, we were awaiting the formal agreement document for the permanent endowment and funding. We followed up with Dr. Steve Maxner in mid-June as we had not received any recent communication. Dr. Maxner contacted The Texas Tech University Development Office with instructions to prepare the document for execution and signatures by myself and First Vice President Gary Noller. We are awaiting that document; once we have agreed to and signed, the document and check for endowment donations will be in the mail to the university. The agreement and payment will establish the endowment at the threshold level.

The permanent endowment is the mechanism we have to continue work on Americal division records and personal gifts from individuals when the non-endowed grants are discontinued. Other veteran groups recognize this need and have funded permanent endowments to continue work on their memorabilia and Vietnam history. One group that has invested heavily in an endowment is the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. Since its inception, its members have generously funded their endowment.

ADVA members and friends of ADVA can donate for the endowment at any time. We generally hold funds in the bank account until we have sufficient funds for a significant check amount. Donations to the Americal Legacy Foundation, an IRC 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) organization, may qualify for reduced tax treatment. Your tax advisor or financial planner can provide more details on how a donation to the Foundation can affect your personal tax situation.
